Manpower’s “Strategies for Success” Scholarship Program

I’m excited to share with you our new “Strategies for Success” training and job placement program. In partnership with Qualcomm, the program will award 20 scholarships to post 9-11 military veterans looking to make an effective transition to the civilian workforce and flourish in the private sector. The 20 scholarships present opportunities for veterans with entry level information technology experience to work at Qualcomm. If you know of a San Diego area veteran interested in being considered for the scholarship, resumes can be sent to jobs4Veterans@manpower-sd.com.

You Need More Than A Degree These Days

The Reporter (via the Associated Press) describes an all too familiar scenario these days — recent grads entering the job market with little, to no work experience. Writer Justin Pope paints a picture of what the future job market may look like and reinforces the importance internships and volunteer work.  Referencing a student he interviewed Pope writes: “A string of internships and other pre-professional experiences in colleges is essential, and some students, he said, will have to settle for internships even after they graduate.”

October 2012 Employment Situation Report Results

The Employment Situation Report for October 2012 was released last week by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 171,000 new jobs were added throughout the month, with employment rising in professional and business services, health care and retail trade.
